For this, he lost decisively to Al Smith and Herbert Hoover retained his position. He was repeatedly compared to Nikolai Bukarhin, whose similar reforms had disastrous results. Roosevelt proposed the New Deal to stave off the Great Depression, just like in OTL.
Meanwhile in the United States, Franklin D. Following the end of the Five Year Plan, a new one was drafted in 1937 to see the rapid development of Soviet heavy industry. Bukarin’s policies would later turn out to have disastrous consequences for the USSR‘s rapid industrialization period. In this timeline, instead of Stalin becoming the leader of the Soviet Union, Nikolai Bukarhin wins the election, while Stalin was killed in an industrial accident.
